At its 43rd General Conference, UNESCO organized a ministerial dialogue entitled “Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow” as part of the Education Commission.
More than 730 million adults worldwide still cannot read or write. Many ministers of education spoke about the critical deficit in basic reading and math skills, noting that these skills have stagnated or declined in several countries. Norway's Minister of Education, Kari Nessa Nordtun, emphasized the need to strike a balance in the use of technology in schools.
UNESCO will continue to work with governments to shape the future of education so that it is inclusive and sustainable, and so that every learner has the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
