The World Bank and SDG4

Education is a fundamental right, a powerful driver of development, and one of the best ways to reduce poverty, raise health standards, promote gender equality, and advance peace and stability. It has a significant positive impact on income improvement and is the primary factor in equity and inclusion.

The World Bank Group is the largest provider of financing for education in the developing world. Through projects in more than 90 countries, it is helping to achieve SDG 4: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.

For more than a decade, the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank Group's fund for the world's poorest countries, and the NGO Save the Children have been joining forces on three continents to improve the lives of children. This transformative partnership empowers local communities to invest in the critical early years of childhood, the foundation of human capital, laying the groundwork for overcoming vulnerability and creating opportunities.
